Ukes of the North Festival

North East Ukulele Club Festival moved to 2021

The North East’s first Ukulele Club Festival was due to take place on 11th July 2020 in Gateshead. We have received over thirty requests to play from clubs, small groups and soloists and over 150 people saying they were hoping to attend. This was how the festival stood in early March.

There has been a lot of soul searching and we believe that it is unlikely that public gatherings will be able to take place in July and even if they were legally permissible I am not sure how comfortable people would be in attending festivals at this time.

The option of pushing the festival back to the autumn felt a bit precarious as there were already a number of festivals and events taking place between August and November. As such it has been decided to move the Ukes of the North Festival to next summer when we will be able to enjoy a summer club festival in safety and comfort.

So put Saturday 10th July 2021 in your diary for the Ukes of the North Festival

Ukes of the North

Virtual Festival

In the meantime, we are trying to keep ukulele players connected during the lockdown through,

  • This website which contains songbooks and arrangements of Songs of the Week.

  • Low Fell Ukes meet up through Zoom each Thursday night between 6.30 and 7.45 - if you would like to join in let me know at happyukes@aol.co.uk

  • Building on the World of Ukes Wireless Festival - would you like to send a video of you singing a song or two which can be edited and played as a virtual festival on 11th July. Again if you would like to take part let me know at the above address.

I hope you are all keeping safe and happy and I look forward to hearing from you.

Richard Taylor
