How can social isolation uncover so much work?
I guess quite a few of us took to being pretty much confined to our houses by thinking , “Right I can get all those jobs I meant to do, done.” Yes we went down to Homebase and bought the paint to decorate the dining room. Then it was - well I may as well sort the electrics out to clear up all those messy wires. Then, its been such good weather that I may as well cut the grass and do some gardening. Then why not power wash the paths and tidy the shed out.
In the midst of all this Integrating Children, the charity I chair, has been struggling to keep supporting vulnerable children whilst everyone else seems to have made the job impossible. Today we are going to have to recognise reality and shut down for the moment… that means telling a lot of young dedicated staff that not only will they not be able to support children, some of whom they have known for years, but also pay will have to stop.
I am not whinging, far from it… I let myself in for all this and, at least, I never get bored.
This is why I get so obsessed with playing the ukulele, it’s pure escape, it’s happiness, it’s challenge. I retreat into playing and could spend hours working through a new song or even writing songs. Perhaps this is why I have so many jobs to do around the house.
Anyway, on Thursday a new Song of the Week will appear - this week was a no brainer with the passing of Kenny Rogers - “The Gambler” (Book 1 page 46) and, if I can get the technology sorted we may be able to have a singalong together using Zoom - yes we sit in front of our computers and see each other and sing. More later today… hopefully.
Thanks to those who are contacting members of the group who are particularly isolated, if anyone wants phone numbers and email addresses let me know.
To brighten your day up just google ‘Corona virus songs’ there are dozens of them.
Anyway more later…..
